Protect your data with encryption

Computer encryption protects data that is stored locally on your computer in the case of your computer being lost or stolen. You may think, “well I store my data in the cloud, not on my machine!” but it’s important to know that in order for your cloud data to function at an optimal speed, your data is saved locally. This means that even data you are storing in the cloud will have a cache that is saved on your hard drive. If someone were to gain access to your hard drive, they would easily be able to access to your data – including recent emails.

When you encrypt your hard drive, a bad actor who has gotten their hands on your machine will not be able to access your data without the encryption key. With an encrypted hard drive, all data on the protected drives is stored in an encrypted form while the computer is locked or turned off. When you unlock the system with your Windows login credentials, everything works similarly like in an unencrypted system. So in your day-to-day use, you wouldn’t notice the encryption.

From our Engineers

SIM swapping is a scam where bad actors are able to contact your wireless provider and get them to switch your number to their phone. This allows them to get your alerts and access accounts like banking, credit card etc. This is the reason we are trying to move folks away from MFA using texts. If you are victim of a SIM swap, your MFA texts will go to a bad actor and potentially compromise your accounts.
